Holy War (Deuteronomy 2) standard

Shockingly, God commands his people to engage in Holy War and so they kill an entire nation. We can make sense of this only if we understand God’s sovereignty (he is God and we are not), justice (he fairly judges evil and that’s good), patience (he shows extraordinary patience to an evil nation) and mercy (he saves Ancient Israel who didn’t deserve it). Christians deal with the same sovereign God who has shown us justice, patience & mercy as Jesus died for us.

New Sermon Series: Romans 12 image

Starting the 10th October 2021, Salt Church will be focusing on Romans 12: Living In View of God’s Mercy! How should we live in response to God’s enormous mercy to us in Jesus? To be a disciple of Jesus is to live a radically different life in response to God’s extraordinary kindness to us. But what does that life look like? How should I live to please God more with my life? How should we live as disciples at Salt Church?  Romans 12 is packed with how to live in response to the gospel. It begins with ‘In view of God’s mercy… do this .. (verse 1). In this chapter there’s hardly a part of life God doesn’t address for us ...

God’s Servant | Thursday, March 25 standard

Matthew 8:14–17   14 When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. 16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17 This was to fulfil what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” One thought: Nothing could be more counter-cultural in our age than someone who has everything giving it all up for the sake of others who didn’t deserve anything. Three questions: Why does Matthew ...

Faith in Authority | Tuesday, March 23 standard

Matthew 8:8–10 8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.   One thought: We don’t trust people in authority anymore because they don’t do what they say.   Three questions: Why can we ...

How do you feel when people disregard God’s grace?   Pray for someone who has rejected God’s grace in the past   Prayer: Praise God that the gospel is the greatest news in the world, regardless of whether people believe it. Give thanks that Jesus is a wonderful, ...

Choose Your Master | Sunday, March 7 standard

Matthew 6:22–24   22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.   One thought: The word here for serve is actually slave, you can only be a slave to one master – God or money.   Three questions: What does it look ...
