Zech 9:1–4

9:1
This is an oracle, the Lord’s message concerning the land of Hadrach, with
its focus on Damascus: The eyes of all humanity, especially of the tribes
of Israel, are toward the Lord,
2
as are those of Hamath also, which adjoins Damascus, Tyre, and Sidon,
though they consider themselves to be very wise.
3
Tyre built herself a fortification and piled up silver like dust and gold
like the mud of the streets.
4
Nevertheless the Lord will evict her and shove her fortifications into the
sea—she will be consumed by fire.

One thought:

The question for every moment is history – what will God do to those empires that reject Him?

Three questions:

How would the people of Zechariah’s time think about the safety of a city like Tyre?

Do you feel that God is in control?

Check out the history of Tyre (wikipedia is fine)

Prayer:

Praise God that He is merciful even to the most rebellious of people. Give thanks that even when we thought we were wise or strong, God humbled our hearts to know Him and trust in Him. Ask God to humble others (pray for three people) that they might seek Him and trust in Him.
