Joel 2:28–32

2:28
(3:1) After all of this I will pour out my Spirit on all kinds of people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your elderly will have prophetic dreams; your young men will see visions.
29
Even on male and female servants I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
30
I will produce portents both in the sky and on the earth – blood, fire, and columns of smoke.
31
The sunlight will be turned to darkness and the moon to the colour of blood, before the day of the Lord comes – that great and terrible day!
32
It will so happen that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered. For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who survive, just as the Lord has promised; the remnant will be those whom the Lord will call.

One thought:

The great promise of the age we live in, is that instead of the Spirit working through a select few, the Spirit will be ‘poured out’ on all types of people.

Three questions:

Can you think where this Old Testament passage is quoted in the New Testament (and where the promise comes to fulfilment)?

Does this prophecy excite you? Why/Why not?

Pray that God would pour out His Spirit on unbelieving people you know

Prayer:

Praise God for the pouring out of His Spirit that allows us to hear the calling of the gospel and trust in Christ. Give thanks that His Spirit has been poured out in you and given you the knowledge of God. Ask God to continue to pour out His Spirit on all nations (pray for some people/nations who need to know Jesus).
