Psalm 11

11:1
For the music director; by David. In the Lord I have taken shelter. How
can you say to me, “Flee to a mountain like a bird!
2
For look, the wicked prepare their bows, they put their arrows on the
strings, to shoot in the darkness at the morally upright.
3
When the foundations are destroyed, what can the godly accomplish?”
4
The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven. His eyes
watch; his eyes examine all people.
5
The Lord approves of the godly, but he hates the wicked and those who love
to do violence.
6
May he rain down burning coals and brimstone on the wicked! A whirlwind is
what they deserve!
7
Certainly the Lord is just; he rewards godly deeds; the upright will
experience his favor.

One thought:

We either think God is far from us and unconcerned about humanity, or like us and limited in His power. Here we are reminded that God sits on a heavenly throne – but He watches, rewards and punishes.

Three questions:

Does God reward us/punish us for our works? Consider – 2 Timothy 4:8, 1 Peter 5:4, Colossians 2:14 & Hebrews 12:4-13.

How do you see/feel towards God in terms of His closeness?

How often do you acknowledge who God is as a part of your prayers? It could help you see Him better as both close & all-powerful.

Prayer:

Acknowledge God as the Heavenly King who sits on His throne and rules as a watching and acting Lord.

Give thanks that in Jesus Christ we can avoid destruction and inherit the blessing of His favor in eternal life.

Ask God to help you see Him better for who He is in relation to ourselves (close & all-powerful).
