Frequently Asked Questions

Are we gathering at 275 Kiera St for church on Sundays?

On 18/3/20 the Australian Government issued a directive that non-essential internal gatherings be limited to fewer than 100 people, as part of stopping the spread of COVID-19.

As a result we’re stopping all our regular Salt Church gatherings on Sundays, until further notice. Submitting to our government is something God calls us to do (Romans 13:1-7). Plus we too want to protect the safety and welfare of our Church and wider community.

So instead of gathering in person we’re gathering online! Check this page each Sunday for the latest ‘online gathering’.

What is our ‘online gathering’?

Until we can meet again in person we’re gathering online. Every Sunday morning we’ll provide a YouTube playlist with videos, songs and a sermon that you can watch and comment on. The link to watch each week’s online gathering will be on this page. You can also subscribe to the Salt Church YouTube channel here.

Can I watch it with other people?

Yes, we’d even recommend it. Why not invite 2 or 3 people over on a Sunday to watch the ‘online gathering’ together, then chat about it and pray afterwards. You could invite people from your Small Group, or someone else that isn’t in a group and who might not know many people from Salt Church – this is a great time to care for others who might not be that well connected.

If you do invite people over or go to someone else’s house, take every possible step to protect your health and the health of other people – wash your hands, cover your coughs and sneezes, and stay at home if you’re unwell or if you have travelled overseas recently.

How long will we be unable to meet on Sundays?

The Government’s limit on gatherings is an emergency measure in response to the crisis of a global pandemic. The advice from health experts and the government is that it’s unlikely to be a matter of weeks, but more likely several (3-6) months before the restrictions on gatherings are lifted. The key factor is the rate at which COVID-19 continues to spread.

Are Small Groups still meeting?

So long as it is safe, and unless the Government reduces the limits on gatherings size, we will still meet in our Small Groups to read the bible, pray, and look out for each other. Please take every possible step to protect your health and the health of other people in your Small Group – wash your hands, cover your coughs and sneezes, and stay at home if you’re unwell or if you have travelled overseas recently.

Where is God in all of this?

We’re certain God is sovereign over all that ever happens in our world, and no less so in this situation. Have a look at this video for suggestions of how to trust God in the midst of this crisis, and how you can practically respond.
