Small Groups at Salt Church
Small Groups are made up of 8-12 or so Christian members of Salt, who meet weekly to read the bible, pray together and love each other. They exist so we can help each other know God better and learn to love each other like God loves us – as the writer to the Hebrews puts is:
“…let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the day approaching.” — Hebrews 10:24-25
Before you join a group check out this infographic. It’ll show you how groups work, what to expect and what might be expected of you as you jump into a Small Group.
Generally we’d encourage you to join a Small Group at the Salt Church gathering you mainly go to. That way you’ll get a few opportunities during the week to get to know people from that same gathering. If that’s not possible for you let us know because we’d love to get you into a group anyway! Email smallgroups@saltchurch.info and we’ll help you find the group that works best.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Will I get my first preference?
As much as possible we try to give everyone their first preference. We do though balance this with 2 other principles: we prioritise people going back into the same group they were in, and we set up all the groups so they’re all healthy. Check out this behind the scenes video to see how it all works.
2. When will I hear which Small Group I’m in?
Your new Small Group Leader will get back to you as soon as we’ve locked things in. But if you haven’t heard after a week or two and you’re starting to wonder, email us and we’ll follow it up.
3. If I’m new to Salt Church can I join a Small Group?
Small Groups are a great part of life at Salt Church, so we’d definitely love to get you in one. But we’ve found that the most helpful first step for you if you’re a Christian and you’ve recently started coming to Salt is Beginning (find out more about it here). Or if you wouldn’t call yourself a Christian but you’re keen to find out more about Jesus, check out Why I Believe (find out more about it here).
4. Can I join a Small Group with some friends?
Absolutely! Have a chat with them to find out which Small Group they’re in or keen to join and put that in your preferences. In our groups we’re learning to love each other like God loves us – it’s great to do that with people you already know and with other Christians at Salt you don’t yet know.
5. What if I don’t know any of the Small Group Leaders?
That’s ok. If you belong to Jesus you’re also united with every other Christian that belongs to Jesus. It always takes a while to get to know the leaders and other people in your Small Group, but you’ll have many weeks together doing just that.
6. What happens once a group has enough members?
Once a Small Group is ‘full’ we take it off the options in the sign-up form.
7. What if I’m not able to join any of the Small Groups that are listed for my Gathering?
We’d love to get you in whatever Small Group you can make – whether that’s one of the groups that don’t appear in the list because they’re ‘full’ (always room for 1 more person!) or a Small Group from another Salt Church Gathering. Just pick ‘Advice’ as your 2 preferences then add a comment in the ‘Anything else we should know‘ section to let us know your situation – we’ll get in touch.
8. What if I change my mind? Can I put in different preferences?
Of course! Just fill in the form again with your new preferences and add a comment in the ‘Anything else we should know‘ section that you’ve changed your mind.
9. What if I don’t want to join a Small Group at the moment?
That’s ok! If you feel hesitant about being part of a Small Group we’d love to help you find answers to any questions or concerns you might have too.
