Heb 4:12–13

4:12
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged
sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints
from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.
13
And no creature is hidden from God, but everything is naked and exposed to
the eyes of him to whom we must render an account.

One thought:

Like a surgical knife, the Scriptures by the hand of the Spirit pierce us, cutting through the outer layers to reveal the truth of our desires and motives, so that we might cut out diseased flesh and allow healthy cells to grow.

Three questions:

How does good doctrine help us fight sin according to this passage?

Can you think of a time lately when you were convicted by God’s teachings?

Read the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) and reflect Jesus’ teaching

Prayer:

Give thanks for the Scriptures and the Spirit, that we have a living and active Bible.

Ask God to help you discern wrong desires and motives.

Ask God to help you and others pursue godliness in line with God’s teachings.
