Matthew 7:21–23

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

One thought:

The danger with this verse is that we think it is attacking us/everyone rather than just a particular (and probably small) group of people.

Three questions:

Who do you think Jesus is speaking to?

Why do you call Jesus Lord?

Reflect on why you call Jesus Lord

Prayer:

Praise God that He saves us and raises us not based on our exertions but on Christs. Give thanks that Jesus walked faithfully with God and is worthy of being called our Lord. Ask God to help you + someone else follow Jesus faithfully, not for power or prestige but for His glory.
