1 Pet 2:18–21

2:18
Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those
who are good and gentle, but also to those who are perverse.
19
For this finds God’s favor, if because of conscience toward God someone
endures hardships in suffering unjustly.
20
For what credit is it if you sin and are mistreated and endure it? But if
you do good and suffer and so endure, this finds favor with God.
21
For to this you were called, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving
an example for you to follow in his steps.

One thought:

It is a hard thing for us to grasp in the time we live, that God might be willing to let us endure hardship (even remaining in slavery to a poor master) for the sake of His glory. It’s crucial to see that Christ is the example of this.

Three questions:

How does this relate to us today? We don’t have slaves in the same way. Can you relate this is the workplace?

How do you feel about this command?

Can you think of a situation where you are enduring suffering unjustly?

Prayer:

Acknowledge that God sent His only Son to suffer at the hands of sinners, despite having done nothing to deserve it. Give thanks for Christ as our model and for the future hope we have in Him. Ask God to help us endure unjust suffering for His sake.
