John 1:9–13

1:9
The true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
10
He was in the world, and the world was created by him, but the world did
not recognise him.
11
He came to what was his own, but his own people did not receive him.
12
But to all who have received him – those who believe in his name – he has
given the right to become God’s children
13
– children not born by human parents or by human desire or a husband’s
decision, but by God.

One thought:

To be adopted is to legally inherit not only the benefits, but also the responsibilities of the new family.

Three questions:

Who gets to decide whether to adopt someone?

Do you see yourself as part of God’s family?

What responsibilities come with being a part of God’s family? Consider how you might fulfil them today.

Prayer:

Praise God that in His grace He would adopt sinners into His family. Give thanks that you were chosen to receive the benefits of adoption in Christ. Ask God to help you and one other brother/sister in Christ to rejoice in the benefits of being His family but also fulfil the responsibilities.
